Counseling for Adolscents & Young Adults

Resilient Renewals

Resilient Renewals is a comprehensive therapy program for adolescents and young adults and their families that partners with young people and family members to design services specific to your needs. Adolescents, young adults, and families experiencing one or more of the following issues may benefit from our unique approach.

  • Depression
  • Anxiety or worry
  • drug or alcohol use
  • academic issues
  • Disruptive behavior, disrespect, difficulty following family/school rules
  • Arguing and tension at home
  • Problems with parent-child or sibling relationships
  • Isolation from peers and/or family
  • Low self-esteem
  • Body image issues
  • Managing a chronic mental or physical health problem
  • Unmotivated or difficulties becoming independent

The program begins with a comprehensive assessment which is completed two sessions. One is done individually with the adolescent/young adult and the other is done with the entire family. These can be scheduled back to back or separately as needed. This process allows the adolescent/young adult and all the family members concerned about the problem to give there perspective and the therapists to gain a more complete picture. Following the assessment sessions the family and individual therapists will consult one another and recommendations are made which may include one or more of the following:

  • Individual counseling for the adolescent/young adult
  • Family counseling for the young adult and family members together
  • Parent coaching
  • Referral to other providers for medication management or treatment approaches as needed

Resilient Renewals is a provided by a collaboration between Angela S. McLean, LMFT of Resilient Counseling, PLLC and Keisha Bryan, LCSW of Wake Renewal, PLLC. Angela and Keisha’s have shared office space allowing for convenient scheduling and professional collaboration. While both therapists are experienced with individual adolescents and family/parenting, Angela McLean focuses more of the family/parenting aspects of the program and Keisha provides most of the individual assessment and treatment.

Benefits of Individual Counseling for adolescents and young adults:

  • An opportunity for adolescent/young adult to talk to an objective party openly about things they may not feel comfortable expressing to other adult
  • Teach healthy coping skills
  • Learn to communicate thoughts and needs in a productive manner
  • Treatment for any underlying mental health issues

Benefits of Family Counseling:

  • Learn to develop a positive family environment with less tension and more enjoyment of one another
  • Learn how to communicate and solve problems together more effectively
  • Develop effective family organization and collaboration

Benefits of Parent Coaching:

  • Provide a support environment parents who often feel overwhelmed, confused, and exhausted with seemingly unsolvable problems
  • Help to develop strategies to for more effectively responding your child when the problem arises
  • Help with getting parents on the same page about how to address issues

While all of these approaches can be highly effective, this program is unique because of the ability to have a specialist in each area working as a team to develop a treatment plan and provide more comprehensive care for young people. The assessment process allows a plan to be developed which is tailored to the needs of each adolescent and family rather than using a one size fits all approach. Additionally, if work with both the individual and family are recommended separate clinicians can work as a team to find solutions.

Insurance is accepted and private pay options are available.
